2016: The Quest for Exploration, Creativity & Determination

Continuing on from 2015's reflective blog post, I thought I'd share my general thoughts and plans for my blog going forward into my seventh year. I've mentioned previously that I'm feeling like the blogosphere has become a tad banal, overly-polished and unrelatable as of late. I feel frustrated and bored of it as both a blogger and blog reader and I feel like if I don't make some adjustments here and there, the feared 'seven year itch' may occur for me and my readers. After such hard work and determination put into all of this, I simply refuse to let that happen.

I want to strip everything bare to the bones and approach blogging as I did when I was a teenager: full of curiosity, enthusiasm and a willingness to share everything I adored with the world - and not over-thinking everything. Although I'll be continuing with current content that I love posting, I hope I'll find my footing in other areas too. I've never lost my authenticity with blogging, ever. I've always been "real" with my readers but I do feel like a particular blogging protocol has developed over the years that has somehow limited what I do and my confidence, to approach new things.

I don't feel like I've "made it" yet in the blogging world, either. Although I've built up a substantial standing in the industry and have achieved quite a bit in these last few years, I still haven't found the sole reason as to why I'm here or doing what I do. I have to remind myself that I'm only 22 and most people in their early-twenties go through this, so it's normal to experience that. I know I haven't reached my full potential yet and I hope the next twelve months help me to explore that.

2016 will be a year of adventure for me; through blogging and through travel. Thunder and Threads  will focus a lot more on travel in general, as my interrailing posts completely sparked up a new love of travel writing for me - and you guys enjoyed those posts too! Travelling is one of my biggest priorities for the coming year and I can't wait to take you all along with me on my ventures.

Personal writing is also a passion of mine so I'm determined to write more pieces about my day-to-day life and experiences here. I like adding an element of humour and fun to my posts, as it shows my personality more, so hopefully that will help you all get to know me that little bit better. I'll also be posting videos on my Youtube channel more frequently, as trying to find a balance between college life, blog life and now Youtube life has been a toughie but I'm confident I can work around it.

I hope you all have a wonderful new year and start it feeling positive, determined, strong and enthusiastic. Leave negativity behind, tie up loose ends and give yourselves a pat on the back. You're all wonderful and I genuinely can't believe I'm still doing this so many years later; without all of your encouragement and kind words, Thunder and Threads would cease to exist. Happy New Year!

  1. Cannot wait! I commented yesterday on how I agreed with you totally, so many blogs are so 'staged' now and it's not real life. I am all for blogs with more creativity, and be more relatable and am definitely going in that direction with my blog now too.

  2. Personally I can't wait to see what you produce in 2016! I adore reading your posts and have done for a long while now and your definitely right about these issues with the blogging world right now. As a regular reader in the blogging world, I do tend to find myself skipping through posts more so now than ever because they just feel false.
I would just like to say you are fabulous at what you do, and I'm so happy to see you addressing issues and taking them in your stride. I've enjoyed reading your journey through 2015 and feeling like I've been with you on all your achievments and cannot wait to do it all again in 2016!
You definitely have your head in the right place and know what you're doing, believe in your insticts more. Myself and I'm sure the rest of your readers believe in you!
    All the best for 2016!

  3. I wrote about this in my own blog post, the blogging thing seems to be so monetised, I've yet to be paid for writing about a single thing, I do it because I love it. I especially like unique and personal posts, what happened to blogging for the love of writing.
