My Knit Up // Irish Big Knit - Innocent x Age Action

Hi guys! As many of you may know, I'm an official Knit Wit for 2012's Irish Bit Knit, run by Innocent Ireland in aid of Age Action. Over the last few years, Innocent have raised over €60,000 for Age Action Ireland, by selling smoothies in stores with special woolly hats on the bottles. It's up to the public to knit the hats for the bottles; a fantastic 25c from each purchase, goes towards Age Action Ireland. I held one of the first Irish Knit Up's in my Nana's house, I gathered family and friends over to knit up some hats! I personally hadn't knit since I was a child, so it was fantastic to learn again - we all had a blast, and enjoyed our yummy smoothies while we were hard at work knitting up the hats. In the end, we ended up knitting around 20 hats in total, and we all plan on knitting even more over the next few weeks! We added our own little touches to each hat; whether it was tying bows around them, finding spare earrings and buttons to attach to them or by mixing different coloured wools together - it was brilliant! We thoughts outside of the box with them, which will hopefully make the hats more appealing to customers!
Anyone can participate in the Irish Bit Knit; all you have to do is visit the Innocent website and there you'll find all of the knitting instructions, patterns and a heap of information to help you out. All of the hats must be sent out to Innocent Ireland by the 30th November. It's a really fun and beneficial way to help the elderly, especially in the lead-up to Christmas. We all know how awful Irish winters are getting, and the cold is a deadly killer for the elderly especially. By joining this campaign, you're helping towards raising money to help those in need.
