Outfit Of The Day - Motel Striped Dress

Hype this outfit on Lookbook - click here!
Hello guys! I wore this striped ensemble out last night, to my Dad's 40th birthday party! I bought the dress off of Asos a few weeks back, and it was on my wishlist for months and months previous to that. I absolutely adore it, it's so retro and interchangeable. Yes, vertical striped pieces have been over-done to death this year, but I find dresses and leggings are still quite easy to work with and simple to make your own.
This dress is by a fantastic company called Motel, and they have a huge selection of striped pieces on their website. It was the first ever piece I've bought from them, and I'm thrilled with it! I wore oversized hoop earrings, that I snatched up for a fabulous €4.50 in the Topshop sale. They add quite an Edie Sedgwick 60s vibe to the whole outfit. I also wore opaque black tights, again for the retro 60s vibe. Opaque black tights are so slimming for the legs, and are incredibly chic and versatile to wear.
I've been getting some stick on my video below for deciding to wear a bra with the dress - I wore one because I'm quite flat chested and strapless bras never work for me. They always end up getting hooshed up every five minutes! Most nude bras don't match my skintone either, and I think clear bra straps look quite tacky. I opted for my push-up white bra, as it suited the dress best and I don't think it's even that obvious. Just saying!

  1. You look gorgeous! Your bra straps are subtle, there's nothing wrong with them, people seriously overreact too much. You really suit the side fringe too! xx

  4. I feel your pain with the strapless bras - I can't get them to stay up to save my life! Although saying that, I got a pretty excellent (and incredibly ugly) nude one from M&S recently which stays up, and also amazingly doesn't give that weird shelf-y strapless bra shape, if that makes sense?

ANYWAY, this outfit is absolutely gorgeous (I have no idea why people are complaining about the bra - I would never have even noticed!) and I'm desperate to hunt down those lovely earrings now!

  23. I have a dress this shape, I posted about it on my blog today.. Why didn't you wear a strapless bra? Would've been the best option I think!

    1. I agree about the strapless bra comment. I love the dress, but I think it could have looked even better with a strapless bra. :) It's great that you added the video.

  24. This has been very useful for ladies like me. Also the collection has been amazing; I'll definitely bring some similar hot dresses home, and won't forget wearing a bra tape http://byebra.com. I’ve some experience with these breast lifts and they go well with the dresses you show on your site.
